Sick and Tired

That’s me this week… sick and tired.  I apologize for missing my usual Tuesday post but I’ve been sick this week.  OK, I still am.

After missing my annual cold in 2011, I started getting a crappy throat last weekend, which blew up into a cold by Monday.  I came home from work early and called in for Tuesday.  I went in for a half day Wednesday before coming back home after lunch and today I already had a scheduled day off.  I hope to make it in tomorrow for a full day.

The thing with my colds is that they make me feel so removed from reality… like I’m not really a part of what’s going on around me.  It’s like a haze over my brain.  I’m not sure if it’s the cold or the cold medicine but I can never be quite sure when I’m going to fish hop under blixen snodgrass.  Fealty!

It’s times like this when I read my completed crossword puzzle and it looks like poetry.

Marc clasp eked
Ohio ounce vino
Wellington I Win
Smelts ecol tired
Watchmen layoff
Moan cello
Edda bake
So ever zippered.

I’m going to break that out at my next poetry slam.

Another thing I discovered this week was naps.  Oh my, the naps!  Had a decent one in my bed Monday afternoon, but the best was on Tuesday.  No one was home so I took a 3-hour nap on the couch.  Napping just seems better on a couch.  If you’re in bed, it’s like a short night’s sleep, but a couch nap is a real nap.  Then again, it could be the cold medicine talking again.  Praxis!

You shouldn’t be allowed to go on E-bay when you’re sick.  They tricked me by sending me an email saying that I hadn’t logged in for, like, years, and they were going to suspend my account.  So I logged in (using my own link, and not clicking anything in the email, in case it was a phishing scam), intending to log right back out.  But then I thought I might as well see if they had any Penguins jerseys for sale.  I haven’t gotten a new jersey in a couple of years, so I figure I’m due.  Big mistake.

There was lots of stuff to choose from.  I ended up buying an authentic Evgeni Malkin black jersey for $65.00 and bid on an authentic James Neal white jersey, which I won for $71.00.  True authentic jerseys sell for upwards of $300, so if they’re legit, I got quite a deal.  Worst case, they’re the Chinese knockoffs, but as the owner of several, if they’re good ones, they’ll be fine.  From the detail in the E-Bay pictures, they looked solid.

Then while I was in there, I remembered that I’ve always wanted an Orioles game jersey.  For as many O’s games as I attend, I really ought to have something better than the cheap give-away tee shirts from the park.  So I ordered a Matt Weiters home white jersey, for $50.00.  That one has already been delivered and I’ll tell you that it’s “fiiiiine.”

It also occurred to me to look and see if there were any deals on the DVD of the Penguins/Capitals 24/7 series from last year’s run-up to the Winter Classic.  I saw some for sale but figured I’d better check Amazon first to establish a good base price.  There, I saw that Amazon had everyone on E-Bay beat, so I ordered one from Amazon.

And wouldn’t you know it, there was a thoughtful message, based on my purchasing history, that there was a new Meat Loaf album coming out.  Well, obviously I have to have THAT, so I ordered it as well.

I don’t know why I feel guilty about ordering all that crap for myself… It’s not like I’m always out there buying myself stupid shit.  I hardly ever shop for myself.  Usually it’s when I’m shopping online for someone else, I see something I like and order it for me.

But I’ll get over it, especially once those jerseys arrive.  However, now I’ll have to worry about upsetting the delicate balance of game jersey mojo.  I’ve got a pretty good system going right now which has resulted in a 9-game winning streak for my Penguins.

I wonder if E-Bay will take returns on account of bad mojo?

I can just take a couple more hits of cold medicine, call them up and confuse them to with a fever-induced combination of jibberish and circular logic.  (Just like Fox “News”.)

Fealty!

Now it’s time for a nap.

You really shouldn't internet-shop when you're drunk, either. One tends to buy expensive yet useless shit while inebriated.

Or so I heard.

Oh! I didn't finish my comment! I also meant to say that I'm sorry you're sick, and I hope you feel better in time to enjoy your weekend!

Wow, I've never heard of a Robitussin-fueled shopping binge. They should add no online shopping to the "Do not operate heavy machinery" warning.

First of all, feel better.

Secondly, being sick and on cough medicine is just like being drunk. So yes, useless shit is inevitable.

I have a Chinese knockoff Malkin jersey that I paid a dollar for.

Best. Jersey. Ever.

Thanks... it 's such a waste to be sick over a weekend.

They should add a "dexterity" test online before you're allowed to shop, just to make sure you're not riding the NyQuil Train.

I generally have no problems with the Chinese knockoffs. Only issue I've had is my white Staal jersey... what should be Vegas Gold trim around the numbers is actually a kind of sickly yellowish green. Poor sweatshop quality control. But I have others that look perfect.

But the main thing is that I don't trust the delivery. The government has been cracking down on these knockoff sites and sometimes the shipments get intercepted. That leaves the buyer S.O.L. Add to that, you can't just put it on your credit card... they insist on PayPal or a wire transfer. I prefer to have MasterCard standing behind my purchase. Don't want to deal w/ PayPal guarantees.

Ah Bluz, I hope you feel better soon. It just bites being sick! But I am with you on those luxury couch naps. There is something about it that is almost like being in a womb. You're surrounded by, in my case, a really soft blanket that hugs just right, and all the cares of the world are gone. Now go take a nap and get better soon!

Oh yeah, stay off eBay until the meds are out of your system!

You're right, your completed crossword does look like poetry! (Either that or a fever-induced combination of jibberish and circular logic). ;)

I hope you feel better soon. Nothing like Amazon recommendations to run up a good bill. I'm guilty of it myself when I get a few spare moments to visit the site. And having Amazon Prime is even more of a catalyst. Oh the internet and its manipulative ways!

bluzdude said...

Oh yeah... nice 2-hour nap. Just the ticket!

bluzdude said...

Welcome, Lisa, and thank you.

I've been wanting to use that idea for some time... every time I check my answers to the prior day's puzzle, I have to scan through the words and it always sounds like bizarre poetry.

I can't really complain... I got some pretty good deals. I don't mind spending money, as long as I'm getting value. If those shirts are as good as they looked in the photos, then I got a steal.

Hope you feel better soon, Bluz! I had the crud a few weeks ago and am SO glad to be over it. Here's hoping it's short-lived for you.

I've learned to just be off of my computer PERIOD when medicated. Ambien does some weird things to the senses, and writing a bunch of FB statuses of "the paragraphs keep moving..." makes some people question my sanity, I'm sure. You got off easy with a few hundred bucks' purchases. :)

I can't complain... even whacked on cold medicine, I still got good value.

You're totally right about couch nap vrs bed nap. Couch naps are the best. Where's Pinky with your chicken noodle soup and Popsicles?

bluzdude said...

No chicken soup, but she stocked the fridge with orange juice and Halls. But better than that, when I can home all sore on Wednesday, before I could even ask, she offered to give me a massage. (Pinky is a professional massage therapist.) She worked me over for 45 exquisite minutes. Just what the doctor ordered!

Wow, I'm late to the commenting party but I have to tell you that I didn't just laugh but really let out a hearty belly laugh when I read this post. I so relate. I have a problem with waking in the middle of the night. I have no problem going to sleep, just staying asleep. I find myself on ebay a lot in the middle of the night and my judgment always seems extremely reasonable at the time. I have had to stop looking at Groupons, however, as they are a another pesky source of wasting money.

Blog posting sick is the best! Some of my best idea come from fever dreams... I'm glad you can appreciate.

Yeah, I hate waking up and not being able to go back to sleep. But when I do, I rarely get up and do something. I usually just lay there and drift. I'd probably be more productive if I did get up... just too lazy (and comfortable) I guess. I usually fall back to sleep about a half hour before the alarm goes off.

Blessings and thanks to Pinky. A 45 minute massage, a frig full of orange juice (no Tang and egg salad?), and a power napping couch. It's good to be sick (once a year).

Last week, I found the absolute perfect hoodie, the one I've been looking for for months, on sale online for $7.

Then I added a crapload of other stuff, also on sale, to my cart.

Then I started feeling guilty and went home without buying anything.

When I came back the next day, newly convinced I should buy the hoodie, it had sold out.

So I had to buy a bunch of other things to comfort myself. Retail therapy whoo!

(Hope you're feeling better. But I like that there was an "Ohio" in this post.)

bluzdude said...

If I saw the $7 hoodie, I’d buy it, no questions asked. Then I’d probably spend another $20 just to get the $5 worth of free shipping. And I’d walk away happy about it.

There is definitely a twinge of Buyer’s High when you make a fun purchase for yourself… Twice if you buy on line. Once, when you buy, and again when it’s delivered.

Unless you have to send it back, of course.
